We answer the most important questions about the restoration of glass surface damage. Please select which topic we can help you with!

  • Who is VITRUM Glass Surface Technologies?
The company Vitrum Glasoberflächen Technologien GmbH repairs damage to all glass surfaces. We provide high-quality services on behalf of architects, insurance companies, general contractors, building owners, banks, property management companies, insurance companies, museums, private households and many more. By applying our unique and tried-and-tested processes, enormous savings can be achieved by repairing damaged objects. In order to ensure customer proximity and fast response times, we operate nationwide. We carry out projects of any size - from individual damage to complex tasks
  • What damage can be removed?
The procedure can be used to repair various types of injuries: • Scratches • Chemical burns (caused by vandalism or leaching) • Mechanical injuries • Glass clouding (ageing and environmental influences) In the case of severe flex damage and chipping at the edge of the pane, the process reaches its limits.
  • Where can the procedure be used?
The procedure is applicable in principle to all Glass surfaces. For example on windows, shop windows, glass facades, glass doors, glass systems, glazing and conservatories and much more The area of application is therefore diverse and wide-ranging.
  • How does the repair/renovation work?
When processing glass surfaces, a distinction is made between additive and subtractive processes. In the additive process, damage to the glass surface is filled with resin, hardened and then polished. In the subtractive process, on the other hand, minimal removal of the material (glass) takes place. The glass surface is minimally removed until an undamaged glass surface is achieved. The predetermined breaking point (scratches) in the glass caused by damage is thus removed and the homogeneous stress distribution, as in the original pane, is restored. Finally, the complete and unclouded transparency of the glass surface is achieved through further grinding and polishing.
  • Grinding and glass – are they compatible?
In the process of glass production, mechanical processing in the form of grinding and polishing is chosen as the last step in order to ensure that the pane remains clear. Grinding and polishing are therefore everyday practice in the production of glass. Our process is based on this process and is therefore ideally suited to glass as a material.
  • To what extent is material removed?
The removal of material does not significantly change the glass surface. The processing is carried out within the permissible manufacturer tolerances. The permissible tolerances of the nominal thicknesses for glass are regulated in standards and processing guidelines. An example of this is DIN EN 572 Part 2 float glass. This allows a nominal thickness deviation of +/- 0.3 mm for 8 mm float glass. The usual depths of glass scratches are between 0.02 and 0.05 mm. Grinding out the scratch does not have a negative impact on the glass surface.
  • Are there any visual impairments?
Our processes eliminate or minimize optical impairments in the sense of distortions. Our method creates the transition from the surface to be treated to the untreated area in such a way that distortions in the transition are prevented. As a rule, the processing of the glass is not visible or disturbing to the average observer and therefore complies with the guidelines for assessing the visual quality of glass for construction.
  • What advantages do I get from using Vitrum glass surface technologies?
    • Significant reduction in costs compared to replacing the glass pane • No interruption to operations required due to complex assembly work • Repairs – directly on site (no installation or removal of the glass pane required) • Fast response time (since taking measurements of the affected pane, orders, waiting and delivery times are not necessary) • No impairments • Environmentally friendly and saves resources.
  • What will this cost me?
Since damage to glass surfaces varies greatly in size and intensity and the type of glass, accessibility of the damage and other factors also play a role, it is not possible to give a blanket price statement and it would be unreliable. We only give exact price information after we have assessed the damage on site. However, for smaller damages, our employees will endeavour to give you a rough price range based on your statements and, if necessary, photo documentation of the damage. Since we always consider replacing the glass as an alternative, you can be sure that any repairs we offer will be worthwhile.
